Michaela Kauer-Franz holds a PhD in Psychology with a focus on product design, usability and user experience. With Benjamin Franz, she founded and co-manages her data-driven UX agency, Custom Medical. The agency is supporting clients with usability engineering and testing. This support is provided both in practical work and in training customers in various areas. Since its establishment, Custom Medical has implemented more than 300 successful projects and has won or been nominated for several design awards (Red Dot Design Award Winner Interface Design, German Design Award, UX Design Award, etc.) since 2019.
Since 2015, Michaela Kauer-Franz lectures "Design of Human-Machine Interfaces" at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Technical University of Darmstadt. Since 2021, she is also a lecturer at the Technical University Darmstadt on "Medical and Critical User Interface Design". In 2018, she started working on the topic of ergonomics and usability at the DIN National Standardization Committee.
Ms. Kauer-Franz is a regular speaker and moderator at various events (e.g. VDE, Forum Institut, Haufe Akademie). For the international training provider MedicalDeviceHQ, Michaela Kauer-Franz is active with her company Custom Medical as an exclusive partner for Medical Device Usability Engineering.
